The Open Air Theatre, Scarborough
Scarborough's Open Air Theatre was re-opened on Friday 23rd July 2010 with the opera event of the year starring Jose Carreras and Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, joined by the Opera North Orchestra in an historical evening of music and spectacular firework display.
The Open Air Theatre will be the catalyst for the resort’s continuing regeneration - it’s anticipated audiences for the 6,500 seater theatre are expected to have a major economic impact on the local economy by attracting significant visitors to Scarborough and encouraging people to extend their stay in the resort.
The investment is part of Scarborough Borough Council’s strategic development of The Sands scheme where innovative thinking and funding has facilitated the improvement of the resort’s infrastructure and enabled it to maintain its awarding winning status and to build on its reputation as a major holiday destination.
