The Open Air Theatre, Scarborough

Did you know that The Park Manor Hotel is the closest hotel in Scarborough to the Open Air Theatre?

Scarborough’s Open Air Theatre is now the largest open air theatre in Europe. It seats 6.500 people, and hosts some of the biggest acts touring the country. Elton John, Gary Barlow, Olly Murs, Status Quo and more have all graced the stage, as well as acclaimed opera singers like Jose Carreras and Dame Kiri Te Kanawa. ‘It’s a Knockout’ was filmed here in the 1960s too, for over eleven years, making it an important part of British entertainment history. The stage is set in the middle of a lake, in a natural amphitheatre, making it a truly unique concert venue.

Located in Northstead Manor Gardens, it is a stone’s throw from our Park Manor Hotel, making us a top choice for concertgoers. Known locally as SOAT or The OAT, the original theatre was built in the 1930s, when Scarborough seaside holidays were at their peak. It drew thousands of visitors a year. With massive investment, the theatre has been updated for a modern audience and is now firmly on the international tour circuit for big name artists.

The 2014 line-up includes Little Mix, Scouting for Girls, McBusted, Boyzone, Union J and rock legends Status Quo. Proms Night and 80’s festivals are also planned for 2014, making it one of the theatre’s most exciting years so far. Keep an eye on the theatre’s What’s On page to see what they have planned for the year. You’ll find musicals, children’s productions, classical music and choral music as well as top international pop acts.
